TRUNK CHARACTERISTICS.
Deciduous trees featuring ovate and crenate leaves, with a marked parallel keel departing from a main medium keel. The tiny red and yellow flowers are gathered in spikes resembling tufts and bloom before leaves development.

WOOD APPEARANCE AND CHARACTERISTICS.
The sapwood of American elm wood varies from white to pinkish and the heartwood features a definitely more marked tone going from crimson to chocolate brown. The colour is subject to changes according to the superficial treatment and light exposure.

Medium specific weight after seasoning: 488 kg/m³.

Histological structure.
It features a medium or coarse texture with a mainly straight grain. It is a medium weight hardwood. It is very resistant to pressure, but less to traction; it is sufficiently elastic.

Mechanical characteristics.
Hardness is medium to low, medium stability, excellent durability of the heartwood, but low for the sapwood.
